For over a century, Fairmont Senior High School has been the foundation for thousands of students...creating a learning environment where they are challenged to prepare themselves for productive roles in society...promoting lifelong learning among the graduates over the years...fostering achievement and honoring accomplishment. The Fairmont Senior High School Foundation, Inc. now builds upon these traditions and ensures continued success of this institution. It is the vision of the FSHS Foundation to support that mission of continued excellence and provide financial and other assistance to the school, its faculty and students.
The FSHS Foundation was incorporated in 1992 as a not for profit, tax exempt Foundation which depends on the contributions from alumni and friends and fundraisers such as golf outing and sale of art prints and note cards. Since its inception, the Foundation has provided scholarships and financial awards to outstanding graduating seniors in financial support of academic endeavors. The school seal which appears in the header above at right is the creation of Mr. Ensel Hawkins in 1922. The following year he had seals made in blue and white and used them as merit stamps for work in his department. Principal Buckey decided it would be a good idea to adopt for the whole school, using it as a reward for exceptionally excellent written work. The seal in itself with its 'torch' in the center of 'F.H.S.' might well mean the light or the intellect of the school and, too, that F.H.S. is a light and service to our community. The original Foundation Logo designed by Mario Roman, class of 1996, appears in the upper left portion of banner. The Foundation takes pride in its accomplishments and looks toward future growth and continued successes for the benefit of outstanding FSHS students.
Charter members of the Foundation: William L. Furgason, principal; Virginia Davidson, president; Linda Orr Morgan, vice-president; Ross Maruka, secretary; and Don Conley, treasurer.
Fairmont Senior named on March 22, 2002 to the National Register of Historic Places-an initiative endorsed by the Foundation.
